There is something magical about seeing major studios with big budgets not only make Biblical movies, but also handle the source material fairly well and with reverence and respect. They were engrained in my mind, and when I first watched the movie as an adult, there was an instant familiarity with the renowned songs written for this film. No collection of "Top Christian Movies of All Time" is complete without Ben Hur. This is without question one of the grandest and most spectacular movies of all time — not just a great Christian movie, but an iconic movie no matter what genre or classification it is being compared to. I remember watching this movie as a young child, and as I grew older, despite modern movies evolving further and further with CGI and visual effects, Ben Hur has aged remarkably, and the 1959 film is still the best adaptation by far. The sets are spectacular, from massive scale ocean ship battles to the final chariot race set in a life-size stadium. This movie hearkens back to an age when the Hollywood blockbuster was something truly worth everyone flocking to see, and whether you are a traditional/classic movie fan or not, you need to do yourself a favor and watch this movie.

#3 Jesus Revolution

Jesus Revolution is in many ways an unconventional Christian movie that intentionally pokes the eye of traditional, established religion, resulting in a smash success of a movie that took off from the moment of release. This film depicts the Jesus Movement of the 1970s, in which many hippies and young people from the fringes of society found Jesus for the first time. As the church navigated how to welcome these new people who were unaccustomed to religious tradition, hippie preacher Lonnie Frisbee became a spearhead of the new movement. While this film has powerful, inspiring moments, it also is not afraid to note some of the more controversial elements of the Jesus Movement and where some abuse of ministerial roles took place. In my opinion as a Christian moviegoer, this film is incredibly inspiring, all while presenting the truth in a raw, authentic, and transparent way! This has been one of the titles on my shelf for a while, and I believe many of you find this film very powerful!

Samson is a fun Christian movie that manages to pull off the ambitious scope of a Samson epic while not feeling too disconnected from the Biblical account like we've come to expect from Hollywood Biblical adaptations. This movie in many ways feels like a "Christian" superhero movie, with Samson's divine strength showing off in a spectacular, fun-to-watch way in this movie. For the main battle scene between Samson and the 3,000 Philistines alone, this movie is worth a watch. The battle scene is big, exciting, and action-packed, and manages to pull off a fast-paced sequence in a competent manner better than most Christian movies. I first watched this movie a year or two after it came out, and I was impressed. I was impressed largely because I've seen plenty of Christian movies, and I know what the standard for Christian action flicks normally looks like, and this one rose above. #5 Beyond the Mask

Beyond the Mask is a one-of-a-kind Christian movie quiet unlike any other within the genre that I've ever seen. This adventurous action picture takes the viewers back to colonial America as a former mercenary for the East India Company travels to the 13 colonies in an attempt to leave behind his life of crime, but is hunted down by his former employer. This film is so much fun to watch and quickly became one of my favorite Christian movies and definitely my favorite Christian action movie! The main character begins to operate as a vigilante in the colonies to thwart the plans of his former employer in his efforts to disrupt the Americas, and the vigilante sections of the movie come across slightly as a colonial Batman of sorts. The film also is notable for its extensive use of visual effects (with over 1,000 special effects) on a limited budget of $4,000,000. For many reasons, this is an impressive and fun movie to watch!

#6 The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments barely needs an introduction, as it has gone down in history as one of the most memorable and iconic Christian movies of all time. The incredible scope and scale of this retelling of the story of Moses in the Bible reminds us of the day when the biggest filmmakers in Hollywood were pouring premium dollars into Biblical epics. To this day, the special effects of the rods turning into snakes, the Nile turning to blood, and the Red Sea parting are among the most iconic in film history. This movie was a notable part of my family ever since my childhood, and I am still every bit as impressed by it now as I was as a child. Although this hearkens back to a day when Hollywood's casting for Middle Eastern roles did not accurately fit the mold, the acting of Charlton Heston in this movie is remarkable and a masterclass in portraying a genuinely iconic figure throughout the ages. I believe that many of you will enjoy this movie!

#7 Nefarious

Nefarious will go down as one of the most unique and unconventional Christian films of all time. Although technically classified as a horror film by many critics, the "horror" elements don't consist of gore or jump scares, but instead of the mature subject material surround a death row inmate who claims to be possessed by a demon. When a psychiatrist comes in to evaluate the inmate, he is shocked by how much the inmate seems to know about him and his personal life, claiming to know this information through his demonic possession. This film is also not exceptionally flashy—most of the movie takes place in the psychiatrist seat as the main character evaluates the inmate. However, when I viewed it for the first time, I was impressed with how interesting the film was despite heavy dialog scenes. #8 Left Behind: The Movie

The original film starting off an iconic movie franchise released in theaters on February 2, 2001, and it was instantly unlike anything audiences had ever seen before. To explain the instant success of these films, it is important to realize what faith-based audiences were used to up to this point. The big budget blockbusters of the past were long gone and a thing of the past. For anyone who wanted to find film and entertainment that reflected their faith, there were very few options, and the options that did exist were often difficult to sit through. When audiences sat down to watch Left Behind, they were pleasantly surprised to discover that this was a movie that was filled with action, good acting, and an enjoyable storyline - at least in comparison to what they were used to. When I watched this as a kid, it definitely scarred and terrified me (as is the effect it's had on many children watching Christian movies growing up) but remains an iconic film in my opinion. #9 God's Not Dead

God's Not Dead is one of the most well-known examples of what is perceived as the stereotypical modern Christian blockbuster. The movie was highly successful (raking in over $64,000,000 in box office revenue) and became an iconic flick in numerous Christian circles, but was torn apart by critics for its poor acting and notoriously bad one-sided portrayal of Christians and atheists, depicting Christians as constant victims being prayed upon by evil atheists and Muslims. The criticisms are valid, and I personally, although I didn't watch the movie until I was nearly an adult, couldn't help but cringe during certain moments of this film. I believe when crafting a film, it is important to depict both sides, INCLUDING the antagonists as believable and realistic, and this film failed to do so. At the same time, this film succeeded at building up an intriguing climax and brought on an interesting dilemma throughout. So consider checking it out today!

#10 Woodlawn

Clocking in as one of the Erwin Brothers' first big successful movies, Woodlawn remains as one of the best faith-based Christian sports movies, alongside other well known titles like Facing the Giants and When the Game Stands Tall. This film takes a rather unconventional angle, addressing the issue of racism during a period of history where a local high school in Alabama is severely divided along racial lines. With a special appearance from Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin and the presence of Hollywood star Jon Voight, this movie shines in multiple ways. I first saw this movie many years ago and still to this day remember the epic touchdown scene, making football feel larger than life on the big screen. I enjoy a good faith-based sports movie, and I think you also will find something to enjoy in Woodlawn!

#11 Alone Yet Not Alone

Alone Yet Not Alone is a historical drama centering on a heartbreaking native American raid on a group of European settlers in colonial America, killing the men and taking the women captive in a gripping, emotional period piece. This is one of the few faith-based films addressing native Americans and colonial America, and in my opinion, it does a fairly decent job displaying the world it is set in. I personally very much enjoy colonial era movies, so this one (along with Beyond the Mask) scratch that itch for me! This movie was actually nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song (an award it did not end up winning) for its memorable original song by the same name as the movie title.
