Storyline

In the 2019 high-octane action spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, giant DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and former British military operativeDeckard Shaw (Jason Statham)—two bitter rivals who despises each other's guts—are forced into an uneasy alliance. When Shaw's sister, rogue MI6 agent Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby), injects a deadly genetically engineered super-virus called "Snowflake" into her own bloodstream to keep it out of the wrong hands, she becomes the target of Eteon, a techno-terrorist organization. Eteon dispatches Brixton Lore (Idris Elba), a cybernetically enhanced soldier with superhuman strength and bulletproof armor, to hunt Hattie down and retrieve the biological weapon. Forced to put aside their deep-seated hatred for one another, Hobbs and Shaw team up with Hattie, embarking on a globe-trotting mission from London to Chernobyl and ultimately to Hobbs' ancestral homeland of Samoa for a massive, old-school showdown against Brixton's high-tech army.

The explosive, insult-laden chemistry between Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham carries the entire movie on its back. Their constant bickering and alpha-male rivalry deliver genuinely funny buddy-cop banter, while director David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) crafts wildly over-the-top, inventive action set pieces—most notably a soaring truck-and-helicopter chase along the cliffs of Samoa and sleek hand-to-hand brawls that embrace complete comic-book absurdity. Running over two hours long, the narrative suffers from noticeable bloat and a formulaic, overly predictable plot structure. Idris Elba does his best as the self-proclaimed "black Superman," but Eteon's generic sci-fi villainy and the movie's relentless reliance on endless CGI explosions can make the final act feel exhausting rather than thrilling.
