You've Got Mail

In the 1998 romantic comedy You've Got Mail, Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) runs "The Shop Around the Corner," a beloved, independent children's bookstore in New York City passed down from her mother. Her cozy local business faces financial ruin when Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), a ruthless executive for a massive, discount book superstore chain called Fox Books, opens a giant location right down the block. In their daily lives, Kathleen and Joe are bitter corporate rivals who clash constantly. Unbeknownst to either of them, however, they are also anonymous online pen pals who met in an Over 50s AOL chatroom (under the screen names "Shopgirl" and "NY152"). As their warm, witty, and deeply personal email exchanges blossom into a real romance behind their computer screens, Joe eventually uncovers Kathleen's true identity, forcing him to navigate the messy reality of being her real-world enemy while trying to win her heart.
