Cast Away

In the 2000 survival drama Cast Away, Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) is a hyper-efficient FedEx systems analyst whose life is entirely ruled by the clock, crisscrossing the globe to maximize delivery speeds. His fast-paced existence is abruptly shattered on Christmas Eve when a cargo plane he is traveling on hits a violent storm and crashes into the Pacific Ocean. As the sole survivor, Chuck washes ashore on a remote, uninhabited tropical island with nothing but a handful of washed-up FedEx packages. Forced to adapt to a brutal reality entirely stripped of modern conveniences, he struggles to find fresh water, build a fire, and secure food. To preserve his sanity through four years of grueling isolation, Chuck relies on a pocket watch containing a photo of his girlfriend, Kelly (Helen Hunt), and forms an emotional attachment to a volleyball he names "Wilson." When an old piece of makeshift plastic washes up on the beach, Chuck decides to build a crude raft and brave the deadly ocean currents in a desperate, final bid for survival and a chance to return home.
