Storyline
In the 2003 family comedy-drama Secondhand Lions, a shy, introverted boy named Walter (Haley Joel Osment) is unceremoniously dropped off by his irresponsible, gold-digging mother to spend the summer on a secluded, ramshackle Texas farm with his eccentric, elderly great-uncles, Hub (Robert Duvall) and Garth (Michael Caine). Rumored by greedy relatives to be hiding a multi-million dollar fortune from a mysterious past, the tight-lipped brothers spend their days shooting at traveling salesmen and buying ridiculous items, including an obsolete, aging circus lioness. As Walter slowly wins over his gruff relatives, Garth begins spinning epic, wildly romantic tales of their youth—recounting how they fled the French Foreign Legion, fought corrupt sultans, and escaped the wrath of a vengeful sheikh in the Middle East. Through these grand stories and the brothers' unapologetically bold approach to life, Walter learns what it truly means to grow up with honor, courage, and a belief in the impossible.
