Storyline
In the 2003 mystery adventure drama Holes, based on the popular Louis Sachar novel, Stanley Yelnats IV (Shia LaBeouf) suffers from a generational family curse of perpetual bad luck stemming from his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather." Wrongfully convicted of stealing a pair of donated celebrity sneakers, Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake, a harsh juvenile detention facility located in the middle of a dried-up Texas lakebed. Under the iron fist of the ruthless Warden Walker (Sigourney Weaver) and her eccentric staff, Mr. Sir (Jon Voight) and Dr. Pendanski (Tim Blake Nelson), the boys are forced to dig one hole five feet deep and five feet wide every single day under the blistering sun, allegedly to "build character." Stanley soon realizes they aren't just digging for discipline—the Warden is secretly searching for the lost, buried treasure of the 19th-century outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow (Patricia Arquette). Teaming up with Zero (Khleo Thomas), a quiet kid who is exceptional at math but illiterate, Stanley breaks away from camp to uncover the truth, unlocking an intricate web of intertwined family histories, centuries-old revenge, and hidden fortune.
