Storyline

In Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ 2023 sci-fi action thriller 65, Mills (Adam Driver) is a pilot from the advanced alien world of Somaris who accepts a long-term exploratory space mission to pay for his daughter Nevine’s (Chloe Coleman) medical treatment. During the return journey, his vessel is struck by an uncharted asteroid field and crash-lands on an unknown, hostile planet—which is revealed to be Earth during the Cretaceous period. Believing himself to be the sole survivor, a desolate Mills prepares to end his life until he discovers one cryogenic pod intact containing Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), a young girl who speaks a different language. To escape the planet before a massive cataclysmic asteroid impact wipes out the region, Mills and Koa must traverse dangerous, prehistoric terrain infested with predatory dinosaurs to reach the vessel's remaining functional escape vessel located atop a distant mountain. Along the way, Mills protects Koa while navigating their communication barrier, forming a surrogate father-daughter bond as they fight off vicious raptors, quadrupedal carnivores, and a massive T-rex to reach safety before extinction strikes.

Editor's Note

Biggest Strength Adam Driver delivers a fully committed, grounded performance that carries the film's emotional core, pairing surprisingly well with Ariana Greenblatt despite their characters' language barrier. The creature designs and practical environmental scale deliver tight, creature-feature tension in the vein of a classic survival thriller, keeping the runtime lean and kinetic. Biggest Weakness Despite an intriguing high-concept elevator pitch—futuristic pulse rifles vs. dinosaurs—the screenplay relies heavily on generic survival movie cliches and repetitive action beats. The narrative feels remarkably thin, rarely exploring its high-concept sci-fi lore in depth and leaving the world-building feeling surprisingly undercooked for a major studio release.
