Storyline
In Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Will Rodman, a scientist in San Francisco, tests an experimental Alzheimer’s drug called ALZ-112 on chimpanzees, unintentionally creating Caesar—a chimp with human-level intelligence. After being raised in Will's home and developing a deep bond with his family, Caesar is eventually forced into a cruel primate shelter where he experiences the darker side of humanity. Realizing his kind will always be oppressed, he uses a more potent, airborne version of the drug to enhance the intelligence of his fellow captives and leads a revolutionary escape. The film culminates in a massive, tactical showdown on the Golden Gate Bridge as Caesar seeks to lead his new society into the safety of the redwood forest, while the same drug unknowingly begins to spread as a deadly virus among humans.

Editor's Note
Biggest Strength The film is anchored by Andy Serkis's masterclass in motion-capture performance, which transforms Caesar into a deeply soulful and empathetic protagonist that the audience roots for over the human characters. Biggest Weakness While the ape characters are richly developed, the human supporting cast—particularly the corporate villains and the romantic interest—often feel like two-dimensional plot devices used only to move Caesar's story forward.
