Storyline
In the 2008 adventure film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, set during the height of the Cold War in 1957, an aging Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. (Harrison Ford) finds himself targeted by ruthless Soviet operatives led by the cold, fanatical Dr. Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett). After being forced to help them locate a highly magnetic alien corpse from a top-secret U.S. military warehouse, Indy is suspended from his teaching position at Marshall College. His quiet exit is interrupted by Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf), a rebellious teenage greaser who reveals that Indy's old colleague, Harold Oxley, and Mutt's mother—Indy's former flame, Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen)—have vanished in Peru. Traveling to the Amazon, Indy and Mutt follow a trail of riddles to find a legendary, elongated crystal skull belonging to a mythical telepathic being. To save Marion and Oxley, they must race the Soviets to an ancient lost city and return the skull before Spalko can harness its overwhelming psychic power to brainwash the Western world.
