Godzilla

In the 1998 sci-fi monster film Godzilla, director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin attempt to Hollywood-ize Japan's most famous Kaiju. Following French nuclear testing in the South Pacific, a irradiated marine iguana undergoes a massive mutation and makes its way across the ocean. Dr. Niko Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick), a mild-mannered NRC scientist studying mutated earthworms in Chernobyl, is recruited by the U.S. military to investigate massive ship destructions and giant footprints left in Polynesia. The creature soon arrives in Manhattan, burrowing beneath the streets and turning the skyscrapers into its personal nesting ground. As the military accidentally inflicts more collateral damage on New York City than the beast itself, Nick discovers the monster is pregnant and laying hundreds of eggs inside Madison Square Garden. Teaming up with his aspiring-reporter ex-girlfriend Audrey (Maria Pitillo) and a secret French operative, Philippe Roaché (Jean Reno), Nick races to destroy the hatching baby creatures before they overrun the world.
