Storyline
In John Gatins’ 2005 sports drama Dreamer (inspired by the true story of the racehorse Mariah's Storm), Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a talented Kentucky horse trainer working for a arrogant, wealthy owner, Palmer (David Morse). During a high-stakes race, a promising thoroughbred filly named Soñador ("Dreamer") suffers a severe leg fracture. When Palmer demands the horse be put down on the spot, Ben refuses and instead accepts ownership of the injured filly in place of his back pay, resulting in his immediate termination. Ben brings Soñador home to his struggling horse farm, where his young daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), forms an immediate, deep emotional bond with the horse. With the support of his wife Lily (Elisabeth Shue), his estranged father Pop (Kris Kristofferson), and loyal stable hands Manolin (Freddy Rodríguez) and Balón (Luis Guzmán), Ben undertakes a painstaking rehabilitation process to heal Soñador's leg. Encouraged by Cale’s unyielding belief in the horse, the family decides to risk everything by entering the fully recovered Soñador into the prestigious Breeders' Cup Classic, pitting their underdog filly against the world's top racing elite.
