Storyline
In the 2016 philosophical sci-fi drama Arrival, twelve mysterious, monolithic spacecraft inexplicably touch down at various locations across the globe, sending humanity into a state of widespread panic and geopolitical paranoia. Desperate to understand the purpose of these quiet visitors, U.S. Army Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) recruits elite linguistics professor Dr. Louise Banks (Amy Adams) and theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) to enter the Montana vessel. Inside, they encounter two massive, seven-limbed extraterrestrial beings they dub "heptapods." As Louise works tirelessly to decode their complex, fluid, circular language of symbols, the world's global superpowers edge dangerously close to launching a preemptive, world-ending military strike. Racing against a ticking clock, Louise begins to realize that unlocking the alien language is altering her own perception of time, holding the ultimate key to saving humanity and rewriting her own tragic destiny.
