The reality is that with streaming services becoming more expensive than ever, and most of them now slamming you with ads EVEN after you pay a monthly subscription, traditional streaming platforms are becoming less and less desirable. I have found myself canceling most of my subscriptions and trying to find more alternatives that don’t keep me chained to a subscription for the rest of my life, but also give me great selection for movies and shows to watch. So in this list, I want to take a look at 10 of the best movies for FREE movies and TV series, all completely legal and completely free!
Also, be sure to make it to the #1 title on this list, because I saved the BEST for last - it’s a website that makes it easier than ever to find your next free movie or show to watch.
With that, let’s dive in!
10. Xumo Play, LocalNow, PopcornFlix, fAwesomeTV
We start off with several B-list movie websites. Each of these mainly depend on less-known, b-list titles, with perhaps one or two movies apiece featuring an A-list actor. Generally, if you are looking for a unique, niche movie you have never seen before and want to find something new (or at least new for you), you will find plenty of that on movie sites like these. Generally, I found the catalog rather uninteresting, but depending on your niche interests, you may find something you enjoy here!
9. Sling TV
Sling TV is a little different from the other titles on this list in that it largely hinges off of live movies, shows, sports, and news. This not exclusively a free movie/show website, as they have plenty of paid streaming bundles, typically centering around sports and politics - especially with deals like their Sling Day Pass, which allows you to purchase access to cable television for anywhere from 24 hours to 7 days for a fraction of the price of a full month of cable elsewhere. But aside from their cable television bundles, Sling has a limited catalog that is, however, peppered with a few gems that may be worth your time. Their selection leans more heavily towards TV series rather than movies, which makes sense considering the platform.
8. Plex
In my experience, Plex is a website that has a little bit of everything. They have a rather large selection, but mainly pick up titles that are already free on other streaming sites as well. With the time I’ve spent scrolling their library, I haven’t found very many A-list titles exclusively free on demand on Plex, but they have a large selection of titles that they share with other streaming sites as well. Plex is also not exclusively free, so if you find yourself searching for a movie title, it will likely show up in search bars, but you will have to make sure that title is actually streaming for free on the platform.
7. Roku
Roku is the most versatile and universally accessible of all the platforms built around physical TV brands’ streaming platforms. Sony and LG also have similar platforms designed for their smart TVs, but Roku takes the cake for being the only one (currently) to allow you to access their platform on non-Roku devices, including smartphones and laptops. Because of this, their platform is very easy to use, and often hosts anywhere from 6-12 blockbuster titles, as well as hundreds of smaller titles. I find their interface harder to navigate when generally browsing for something new and unique to watch, but if you know where to look, you can usually find some high quality titles here.
6. Fandango
Fandango has already existed as a premium VOD platform for years, allowing you to rent movies and shows on demand. After they acquired the free movie site Vudu, they integrated it onto their platform to allow a selection of free movies and shows within the website. They have a rather similar selection as Roku (usually anywhere from 6-12 or maybe even more blockbuster titles), but have a slightly easier interface to navigate than Roku does. The big downside is that you HAVE to have a Fandango account to watch the movies and shows. The account is free, but it can sometimes be a hassle to have to sign in when you are looking for a simple click-and-watch.
5. Freevee by Amazon Prime
Formerly branded as IMDBtv, Freevee is built into the Amazon Prime streaming platform, but fortunately, you do not have to have an Amazon Prime subscription to view these free titles. Similarly to Fandango, however, you do at least have to have a free Amazon account to access these movies/titles. Freevee usually hosts a decent number of blockbuster titles, and also has the advantage of streaming a significant number of Amazon original titles completely free, such as the hit movie, “The Tomorrow War,” featuring Chris Pratt. The main downside of the platform is that since it is integrated into the Amazon Prime platform, it can be confusing sometimes figuring out whether a title is actually free and accessible to a non-Prime account, or if you have to have Amazon Prime to view it. If you are just browsing on the official Amazon Prime account, the free and premium titles are sometimes listed side by side with the free titles at times labeled “Included with Prime,” even if Prime isn’t required - leading to some confusion for myself.
4. YouTube Movies
YouTube also has an extensive VOD platform built into their video sharing platform, and an entire section of the website is dedicated to free movies - but almost entirely movies. Shows are virtually non-existent on the platform. However, they usually have an impressive selection of big titles, ranging from action to comedy to drama. The one “superpower” of YouTube movies is that if you happen to have a YouTube Premium account (which gives you access to YouTube Music and ad-free YouTube video streaming), you get to watch all of these movies ad-free. No premium subscription is required to view these, but if you already happen to have that service, it is very nice to be able to click and watch any of these hundreds of titles with NO ads.
3. Pluto TV
Pluto TV has one of the widest and most impressive selections on this entire list. They consistently have had more blockbuster movies and big TV shows than almost any other free streaming website, and sometimes work deals to stream entire movie series and franchises, such as a recent deal with Paramount to stream almost the entire Star Trek franchise completely free. They also lean in heavily to live tv streaming, which means there is usually a movie playing live whenever you navigate to their website. Some may find this useful with casually looking for something to watch, but I actually found it a nuisance, as it is virtually impossible (by my own observations, at least) to remove the live tv overlay when I just want to watch content on demand. But all in all, they have one of the best platforms on this list.

And definitely the best all-around platform before getting to the number one title on this list is Tubi TV. Tubi consistently also has a massive free platform just like Pluto TV, but in general, I find their website easier to navigate, easier to browse for new content to watch, and more visually pleasing in website design. There are no annoying live tv overlays - just simple click and watch. They almost always have a large list of blockbuster movies to watch, spanning almost every genre imaginable. If you are looking for a hassle free, no account required, click and watch platform, Tubi is about as good as it gets.

Veluminous is the newest platform to be launched, and has a distinct advantage over all of the other platforms on this list. Rather than primarily being a streaming host, Veluminous is a streaming aggregator that collects lists of the best movies and shows across the internet and combines them all into one master list on one central website, linking to each website where the content is hosted. As you can see, there are close to a dozen free movie streaming sites, and sometimes it can take over an hour just to browse each to make sure you aren’t missing an exciting title that might be on one platform but not on another! Veluminous solves that problem by making everything easier and only requiring you to visit ONE website for a detailed, extensive list of movies that are hosted across this list of websites. If you are looking for the simplest, quickest, and lowest hassle way to find your next free movie or show to watch, it won’t get better than Veluminous!
