Storyline
In the 2020 live-action adventure Sonic the Hedgehog, the titular blue blur is an extraterrestrial refugee living a secret, lonely life in the small town of Green Hills, Montana. After accidentally triggering a massive electromagnetic pulse that knocks out power across the Pacific Northwest, Sonic draws the attention of the eccentric and brilliant roboticist Dr. Robotnik. Teaming up with the town's kind-hearted sheriff, Tom Wachowski, Sonic embarks on a road trip to San Francisco to recover his lost ringsâwhich serve as portals to other worldsâwhile evading Robotnikâs fleet of high-tech drones and discovering the true meaning of friendship and home.

Biggest Strength Jim Carrey delivers a wonderfully manic, throwback performance as Dr. Robotnik, channeling his classic 90s energy to provide a formidable and hilarious foil to the CGI lead. Biggest Weakness The "road trip" structure is a fairly safe and well-worn trope for live-action/animation hybrids, which can sometimes make the middle section of the film feel a bit formulaic.
