Storyline
In the 2017 animated comedy The Emoji Movie, the story takes place inside a smartphone in the bustling city of Textopolis, where all emojis live and hope to be selected by the phone's user. Gene is a "Meh" emoji who, unlike his fellow citizens, has the ability to express multiple emotions. After a malfunction causes a crisis in the phone, Gene is labeled a "glitch" and slated for deletion. He teams up with his best friend Hi-5 and a rebellious code-breaker named Jailbreak to travel through various appsālike Spotify, Candy Crush, and Instagramāto find the "Cloud," where he hopes to be reprogrammed into a normal, one-dimensional emoji.
