Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

In the 2017 action-adventure comedy Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, four mismatched high school students—nerd Spencer, football star Fridge, self-absorbed Bethany, and quiet wallflower Martha—are sent to detention and tasked with cleaning out the school basement. There, they discover an old video game console containing a retro cartridge titled Jumanji. Upon selecting their characters and starting the game, they are magically sucked into the lush, dangerous jungle world of Jumanji, transformed into the adult avatars they chose. Spencer becomes muscular action hero Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Fridge turns into short zoologist Franklin "Mouse" Finbar (Kevin Hart), Martha becomes martial arts expert Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and Bethany becomes overweight male cartographer Professor Sheldon Oberon (Jack Black). Trapped inside a living game world, the teens discover they each have only three lives marked on their wrists. To escape and return home, they must work together, harness their avatars' unique abilities, and return a legendary emerald called the Jaguar's Eye to a giant stone statue to break a dark curse imposed by the ruthless villain Van Pelt (Bobby Cannavale).
