Storyline

In the 2025 independent animated film Book of Joshua: Walls of Jericho, the biblical epic comes to life as Joshua steps up to lead the Israelites following the death of Moses. Tasked with guiding his people into the Promised Land, Joshua must face the heavily fortified city of Jericho, governed by a ruthless king and protected by seemingly impenetrable stone walls. Before launching an assault, Joshua dispatches two brave spies into the city, where they find an unexpected ally in Rahab, a local woman who shelters them from the king's guards in exchange for her family's safety. Driven by faith rather than conventional military tactics, Joshua receives divine instructions to march his army around the city once a day for six days, followed by seven laps on the seventh day. Accompanied by priests blowing ram's horns (shofars) and bearing the Ark of the Covenant, the Israelites fulfill the command, culminating in a dramatic shout that causes Jericho's massive fortifications to crumble.

Editor's Note

Biggest Strength The movie excels at delivering an earnest, faithful adaptation of the biblical narrative using a vibrant, comic-book-inspired 2D animation style. It presents the espionage element—specifically the high-stakes mission of the two spies and their interaction with Rahab—with surprising tension and cinematic flair, helping humanize the ancient conflict for modern audiences. Biggest Weakness As an independent, lower-budget animated feature, the production quality struggles to match the fluid polish and dynamic scale of major studio animation like The Prince of Egypt. The voice acting and lip-syncing can occasionally feel stiff, and the climactic destruction of Jericho relies on fairly basic CGI effects that detract slightly from the emotional weight of the moment.
